~ƎĚŠĚē ĿŠ ǧǯǯǮȡ ƥĺĚ primeval world museum Geoskop is the branch of the Palatinate Museum at Lichtenberg Castle with the educational project ¤ĚƙĚîƑČĺ ØūƑŒƙĺūƎȦ ¹ĺĚ H/~¬e~¡ ƙĺūDžƙ ljūƙƙĿŕĿzed animals and plants from the time before the diŠūƙîƭƑƙȠ îŞƎĺĿċĿîŠƙȡ ƑĚƎƥĿŕĚƙȡ Ǜƙĺ îŠē ƥƑĚĚƙ ūlj ƥĺĚ tropical fern and horsetail forests of the Permian. The landscape of the prehistoric Palatinate comes alive on graphics. Animals and plants are recreated once again. The museum has made a name for itself beyond the borders of our municipality with the discovery of the small prehistoric lizard Remigiomontanus. When the Kusel region was still on the equator and characterized by tropical vegetation, this primeval lizard was native to our region. Today, its fossils are repeatedly discovered during excavations in the quarry in Rammelsbach and Theisbergstegen and elaborately prepared in the Geoscope. Since excavations began in 2013, thousands of fossils have been discovered in the quarries and a good ǧǦǦ îŠĿŞîŕ îŠē ƎŕîŠƥ ƙƎĚČĿĚƙ ĺîDŽĚ ċĚĚŠ ĿēĚŠƥĿǛĚēȦ Tƥ ƙĺūDžƙ ƥĺĚ ijƑĚîƥ ƙČĿĚŠƥĿǛČ ĿŞƎūƑƥîŠČĚ ƥĺîƥ ūƭƑ ƑĚgion has to offer with its geological past! The small back lizard Remigiomontanus is an icon of the Kusel prehistoric period and with his great importance for the region has also made it onto the tourist information signs from Lichtenberg Castle!
